LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT

Car Passenger Injured

Only one man was injured in the accident involving a shunting engine and a car, driven by Mr Anthony Joseph Searle, of Marshmans road. Rangiora, at the Lincoln road railway crossing late on Tuesday night. The injured man, Leslie John Lawrence, aged 19, of Seymour road, was treated at the Christchurch Hospital casualty department for a leg injury and abrasions. He later reported to the Central Police Station. Two other occupants of the car were not injured. Mr Searle reported the accident to the Rangiora Police Station yesterday morning. It was raining when the accident occurred. The car was pushed for several yards down the line before being cleared from the engine by the cowcatcher.

Police, called to the crossing just before 11 p.m., found the extensively damaged abandoned car near the line but there was no sign of the occupants.

Oven Fire.— An oven fire in the home of Miss F. O’Neill, 84 Brisbane street, about 4.20 p.m. yesterday, was attended by one unit from the Sydenham Fire Station. There was no damage.
