“SKIES ARE CLEARING”

Soviet Press Comment (N.2, a Nsoctuttun—copyright > MOSCOW, Sept. 17. Moscow newspapers today told the Soviet public that Mr Khrushchev’s talks with President Eisenhower had made a “good beginning” and that the skies were clearing between the two mightiest world Powers. “Pravda” and "Izvestia” devoted two and a half of their four pages to what "Izvestia” editorially called Mr Khrushchev’s ‘peace mission” to the United States. The "Izvestia” editorial said Mr Khrushchev was "attracting the sympathies of the citizens of the trans-ocean country.” The Soviet Government newspaper, edited by Mr Khrushchev’s son-in-law, Alexei Adzhubei, said: “Already the first two days of Mr Khrushchev’s stay in the United States have given much evidence of the particular importance and usefulness of personal contacts between the eaders of the two most powerful countries on our planet.”

“Izvestia” also said its news from the other side of the ocean “bears witness of how high the international prestige of our fatherland has risen. The fatherland is represented with dignity by the outstanding peace fighter. Nikita Khrushchev.” “Mr Peace” Moscow Radio said that Americans were saying of Mr Khrushchev’s visit: “Mr Peace himself has come to America.” In a programme directed to the Soviet Pioneers, equivalent to the boy scouts, Moscow Radio said: “Never before in the 169 years of its existence has Washington experienced such an event. “Americans met with great joy the messenger of our country because Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev brought the American people the most desirable thing—he friendship of the Soviet people, the hope for peace expected now by the whole earth.
