HEALTH STAMPS WITH FLAWS
Complete Sheet Sold In Ashburton A complete sheet of imperfect health stamps, containing 120 of the 3d plus Id issue, valued at £2, was sold in Ashburton during the first day of the Health Stamp campaign on Wednesday. Each stamp, featuring the native bird,
Poaka, is different. Mr A. S. McGregor, a local stamp authority, described the fault as unusual and said that it was probably due to double printing. He said that he could give no indication as to the value of the stamps to a collector until he had examined one of them. Some of the birds have an extra set of coloured legs alongside the white legs. An eye dot of coloured ink similarly ranges up to half an inch from the bird’s head. Both should have been printed on the white space. Birds on the stamps at the bottom of the sheet have three legs, compared with birds with four legs at the top of the sheet. Apparently the sheet slewed to the Side as the printing was done, with a greater movement at the bottom. In some cases, the coloured legs have been printed almost off the stamps, with the legs running over into the white' area near the perforations. I
