RACING Beau Way Supreme Court Double Pays £554

•‘The Press" Special Service PAEROA, September 18. A doubles dividend of £554 15s for £1 was paid on Beau Way and Supreme Court at the Ohinemuri Jockey Club’s spring meeting at Paeroa today. There were 430 winning tickets (5s unit), of which 145 were held on the course.

Beau Way was the popular fancy with both win and place and doubles bettor in the first leg, the Poland Cup, but Supreme Court (Flying Handicap) was well out of favour. Beau Way came to the front with a furlong to go and won by a length and a half from Vivian, which shaded Waipari for second. Waipari was unlucky. He was checked badly when Sir Valley weakened and dropped back about six furlongs from the finish. Second Leg The well-performed three-year-olds Wakatere and Taj Beebe dominated the betting in the second leg, the Flying Handicap, but neither paid a dividend. The honours were.taken fairly by the Takaninl nine-year-old gelding Supreme Court. Nimbula was second and Melanion third. Wakatere was fifth and Taj Beebe eighteenth. In a win and place pool of £27,314 in the Flying Handicap, Wakatere carried £7291 and Taj Beebe £3065. Supreme Court carried £383 of the win pool, which amounted to £11,640, and £583 in a place pool of £15,674. The conditions were very favourable for racing. The weather was fine and warm, although overcast. The going was fast. On-course the totalisator handled £45,326 10s, including £6097 on the double, against £46,466 last year, Poland Cup Running

Sister Belle, Flying Satchel, Indian Mars and Vivian ran close together in front from the start of the Poland Cup. Black Seaman dropped behind. Sister Belle was pacemaking six furlongs out by a length from Indian Mars. Insignus, Beau Way, Vivian, Daysun and Flying Satchel were next. Sir Valley, running about tenth, faltered and Waipari was badly stopped. Insignus all but joined Sister Belle as they reached the three furlongs, but Sister Belle drew away again to reach the straight a length ahead of Insignus. Vivian and Beau Way were next ahead of Daysun and Indian Mars. Insignus tired and Beau Way ran up to Sister Belle and drew out to win convincingly from Vivian. Waipari was half a length back. He came with a fast late run to beat Flying Satchel and Sigur was also a strong finisher for fifth.

Peterford was sixth, then came Sister Belle, Insignus, Indian Mars, Jalna, Black Seaman and Daysun. Barobar was last and Sir Valley was pulled up bleeding freely from the mouth and nostrils. Supreme Court Narrowly The 19 runners in the Flying Handicap went away smartly. Wakatere and Summer Glow lost ground quickly and Nimbula and Melanion led early from Donna Paola, Somain, Golden Countess, Sir Goodwin, Sunny Bay, Taboo. Greensleeves and Taj Beebe. Wakatere came next. Nimbula came to the straight, going freely, a length ahead of Melanion. Donna Paola and Supreme “Court. Wakatere, Golden Countess, Greensleeves, Taboo and Sunny Bay were next. Supreme Court joined Nimbula just inside the last furlong. There was little between Supreme Court and Nimbula at the finish, only half a head separating them. A length and a half away came Melanion. Donna Paola was fourth and Wakatere weakened to fifth. Then came Golden Countess, Taboo, Greensieeves, Somain, Gonzales and Sir Gabador.
