NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN
Remit On Juvenile Crime Passed The Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women passed a remit at its September meeting urging the Government to amend the publication laws at present in force on crimes of violence and sex. The remit said “That the National Council of Women ask that the laws relating to the publication of evidence in the Children’s Court should operate in the case of children, who because of the nature of their crimes, have to be tried in the Magistrate’s Court or the Supreme Court, where the publication of such evidence would tend to adversely affect the minds of other juveniles.” Mrs W. Grant (president), who was recently at a meeting of the Dominion executive of the N.C.W. in Blenheim, said the experience had brought home to her how far-reaching decisions made by N.C.W. might be, and had made her realise how seriously members should take the responsibility of the work. Mrs Grant, with other delegates, reported on discussions at the meeting. Reports on the Consumer Council, health stamp sales, showing of films to children, town hall promotion and mental health were given.
