Compton Replaces Miller
(N.Z Press Association—Copyright) JOHANNESBURG, Aug. 26.
Denis Compton has agreed to replace Keith Miller as captain of a Commonwealth cricket team to tour South Africa in October and November.
Announcing this yesterday, the chairman of the Transvaal Cricket Union, Mr Geoff Treadwell, said Miller had yesterday informed the union he was unfit and would be unable to make the tour. Mr Treadwell said Compton had agreed to take over in a telephone conversation. Compton, who retired from regular first-class cricket in 1957, toured South Africa twice, in 1948-49 and 1956-57. The Commonwealth team has not yet been completely selected.
