(New Zealand Press Association/ DUNEDIN, August 26. “New Zealand’s junior athletes do not have to apologise to anyone. They have proved by their recent fourth placing m the 1959 international correspondence track and field championships tor boys under 19 that thev can match the best,” said Mr Orrest Jamieson, athletic coach at PaJo Aito High School, North California, in Dunedin today. “New Zealand's performance in being headed only by California, Texas and Australia, emphasises that this small country’s athletes, per head of population, probably have more ability than most. “I have been Impressed by the training methods and the athletes I have seen during my visit through New Zealand. and I think track and field has bright prospects here.” REPRESENTATION IN MARATHON Baillie And Julian May Go To Athens (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 26. The secretary of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Centre (Mr 1 MacCormick) said yesterday that the New Zealand Association has agreed to reconsider the question of New Zealand representation in the world commemorative marathon in Athens on October 25. The association is believed to have already provisionally forwarded the names of W. Baillie and J. Julian to Greece. World-ranking performances were returned by Baillie (2hr 20min 13sec) and Julian <2hr 20 min 34sec) in Auckland on Saturday. An appeal for £lOOO has been launched in Auckland to send the runners to Greece.
