DISUNITY IN EUROPE
Moscow Warns Britain
•NZ Press Assocuitton-~Coppright i LONDON, Aug. 25. On the eve of President Eisenhower’s mission to restore Allied unity in Europe, a Soviet broadcast warned last night that the leaders of France and West Germany were pressing policies hostile to Britain. “It is noteworthy, that FrenchWest German activities have of late been acquiring a sharper and sharper anti-British edge.” said a Moscow radio commentator. The anti-British edge of the French-West German alliance is not accidental. “The British Government’s statements about the need to settle controversial questions by negotiation are objectively hampering the (Paris-Bonn) axis in its attempts to prevent the West from entering into any negotiations with the Soviet Union.” The commentator told Britons that the best thing that could happen for them would be a break-up of the understanding between the French President. General de Gaulle, and the West German Chancellor Dr. Adenauer. “As long as this alliance continues to exist on terms dictated by Dr. Adenauer, it may be expected to produce more highly unpleasant surprises.” he said. “Therefore concessions to Dr. Adenauer, political as well as economic, can only hasten these surprises.”
