BOOKINGS FOR BALLET

Queue Outside

Theatre

When the manager of the Majestic Theatre (Mr R. Chapman) arrived to open the theatre at 8 a.m. yesterday, he was not really surprised to see a queue outside for yesterday was the first day of open bookings for the Bolshoi Ballet Ensemble’s city season. However, he did not expect so many at that hour; there were more than 100.

None slept out overnight to join this queue. The first person arrived about three hours before the door opened. There was a queue till well after 2 p.m. At one stage it stretched in a semi-circle around the theatre’s large foyer, out into Manchester street and then down Lichfield street.

Mr Chapman is ‘‘quite confident” that he will be able to fill the 9000 seats for’the six-day city season.

There is even room for the ballet enthusiasts who stood for more than an hour in a queue outside a shop believing that was where bookings were being made. Bookings were certainly beins made there—for a rock 'n' roll show.
