Lieutenant-General Lord Freyberg, V.C., president of the Shaftsbury Homes and Arethusa Training Ship since 1953, has relinguished his appointment. He is succeeded by the Earl of Ranfurly, the descendent of a former Governor of Zealand.
Mr Justice Haggitt, who has been in hospital for the last two weeks, will leave Christchurch by air today for convalescence at his home in Auckland.
Sir William Hale, who has been the dairy industry representative on the Meat Board since 1942. has retired and Mr Linton, chairman of the Dairy Board, has been appointed to represent the industry on the Meat Board.—(P.A.)
Mr T. G. Shanks recently underwent a serious operation and is making satisfactory progress. The council of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association decided to send Mr Shanks a letter of good wishes. The appointment of Mr Vadhana Isarabhakdi as Thai Ambassador to New Zealand is announced by the Thai Charge D’Affaires in Wellington. He has also been appointed Ambassador to Australia, and has taken up residence in Canberra. He is expected to present his credentials in New Zealand next month.— (P.A.)
Mr H. Bayly, of Wairoa, was re-elected chairman of the electoral committee of the Meat Board at the annual meeting of . the committee yesterday.—(P.A.)
Mr L. A. Sherriff, of Marton, has been re-elected chairman of the Veterinary Services Council. —(P.A.) The Rev. Kenneth Schollar, senior chaplain to the R.N.Z.A.F. and padre at the Wigram station, has left Christchurch for a sixweeks’ staff visit to Singapore, where he will stay with the Dominion squadron stationed there.
