SCHOOL OF ART EXTENSIONS
Grant Approved By Cabinet
ifrom Out Parliamentary Reporter/ WELLINGTON, August 25. Approval for the extensions of the School of Art at Riccarton has been given by the Cabinet. A grant will be provided for the building of four additional rooms Advice of this decision was given to Mr M. A. Connelly (Government, Riccarton) tonight. Mr Skoglund said the number of fulltime students at the school had increased at a much greater rate than was anticipated, and that the additional accommodation was urgently needed.
According to department figures, the school's roll has increased from 57 in 1956 to 91 this year. It is expected to reach 126 in 1961. These large numbers have placed considerable strain on existing facilities.
