Loss Of £169 For Year

“Compared with most other clubs and remembering our substantial centennial effort this is quite a satisfactory showing under the circumstances.” says the president of the Timaru Trotting Club (Mr E. D Mcßae) referring in his annual report, to be presented on Thursday evening, to the accounts for the year which show a loss of £169 16s 6d. Mr Mcßae said the T.A.B. dividend for this year should be about the same as last year. The report refers to the death of the former president (Mr G. J Walker) who for a number of years gave outstanding service to the sport in the district. Included in the business for the annual meeting is a notice of motion “that this club institute a memorial race to Mr Walker in recognition of his grand services to the club “The club was fortunate tn having good weather for its four meetings, except for the last two or three races of the May meeting These meetings were well patronised and successfully conducted.” Mr Mcßae says “On January 17 our centennial fixture was held, a feature being the Centennial Cup Handicap <two miles) for high-class pacers, for a stake of £l5OO. We are grateful to Mr Don Nyhan tor producing the champion. Johnny Globe in an exhibition appearance, which met with an enthusiastic reception As the result of a special gate money drive, £902 was made available to the centennial funds as the club's contribution.” the report says The stakes distributed were £13,150, compared with £12.845 in 1958 The committee is endeavouring to maintain stakes at the present level without reducing the classes
The totalisator turnover tor the year was £298.783 15s. compared with £303.944 for last year Tn view of the prevailing conditions this is a very satisfactory result. On-course turnover totalled £168,360 as against £174,693 last year.” the report says.
