Cricket INNINGS WIN TO ENGLAND
5-0 Victory To Test Series
LONDON, August 24. Dismissing India’s last five batsmen for 48 in an hour and a half this morning. England won the fifth test by an innings and 27 runs—and for the first time won all five tests in a series. Australia had been the only country to achieve this feat—against England in 1920-21 and South Africa in 1931-32, both series being in Australia. R. G. Nadkarni, the solid lefthanded batsman who fought hard against the English attack on Saturday, was out this morning for 76, with only seven runs added to his score. J. M. Ghorpade, who had helped him put on 53 for the sixth wicket, had been dismissed four runs earlier for 24, and the end was then in sight. F. S. Trueman hurried the finish by taking the last three wickets for eight runs in four overs with the new ball. What some critics regarded as a farcical international series was rounded off with a 22 overs-aside exhibition game after the test had finished.
