Judge Archer To Head Licensing Commission
(New Zealand Frew Association) WELLINGTON, August 23.
The appointment of Judge K. G. Archer as chairman of the Licensing Control Commission was announced by the Minister of Justice (Mr Mason) on Saturday.
Judge Archer, whose appointment becomes effective from September 1, will take the place of Mr A. M. Goulding. Mr Goulding’s appointment expired in May last, but he has been carrying on as chairman pending a permanent appointment.
Judge Archer is the Judge of the Land Valuation Court, and also holds a number of other offices. He will be able to undertake the chairmanship of the Licensing Control Commission in conjunction with his present offices.
Mr Mason said the Gpvemment was at present reviewing the functions of the Licensing Control Commission.
He said that Mr Goulding had served the country very well. He was appointed to the Magistracy in April, 1938, and on June 1, 1949, became the first chairman of the Licensing Control Commission.
“His contribution during the crucial formative years placed the commission on a sound foundation and the Government is most appreciative of his work.”
