Hotel Damaged By Fire
(New Zealana Press Association/ GREYMOUTH, August 23.
The kitchen, adjoining rooms and the roof of the Royal Mail Hotel, Woodstock, were damaged by fire about 4 p.m. today. It is thought the blaze began in the kitchen, where the damage was most severe.
The Hokitika Volunteer Fire Brigade and its Kaniere auxiliary attended, and though they had some anxious moments in maintaining a useful water supply, they soon had the blaze under control.
The superintendent of the Hokitika brigade, Mr M. Davidson, said that when the firemen arrived, they found that the blaze had been kept partly in check by a volunteer bucket brigade.
