Talk on Ballet— Miss Ruth Berney spoke on “The British Ballet Organisation and its tradition” yesterday afternoon at Jellicoe Hall: Miss Bemey is the London Examiner of the organisation. The British Ballet (Australasian) Organisation sponsored the meeting. Y.W.C.A. Matron Resigns.—lnmates of the Y.W.C.A. hostel held a social function recently to honour their matron (Miss M. Buxton) who has resigned. The girls presented Miss Buxton with a tortoiseshell travelling clock and six silver cake forks. Musical entertainment was given by Misses V. Hoskins (piano) and J. Gilbert (violin) Student Nurses Officers.— Officers elected at the annual conference of the New Zealand Student Nurses’ Association at Napier were: President. Miss Hilda Boyce (Blenheim); vicepresident. Miss Wendy Mclvor (Invercargill); area representatives, Miss Jocelyn Buckett (Auckland). Miss Rae Watson (Hamilton), Miss Anne Bruce (Napier). Help at Museum.— Voluntary helpers—Mesdames J. G. Simpson G T Hennessy. 1 R. Furneaux J J Mulligan, and M E. Wright —have regularly been attending the Canterbury Museum two or three times a week to assist Miss Rose Reynolds in the “vast display projects” for the Canterbury colonists’ galleries, the Director (Dr. Roger Duff) told the Museum Trust Board. Welsh Society.—A “ladies’ evening” was given by the Christchurch Welsh Society recently when the president’s wife (Mrs Victor Rule) presided. Miss Linda Miles read a news item about the Prince of Wales and his love for Welsh songs, which was followed by the singing of “God Bless the Prince of Wales” by the audience. Other items included a pianoforte solo by Miss Leslie Overend, recitations by Mrs Alun Breese. Mrs Gwen Nolan and Miss Nerys Nolan: humorous monologue by Mrs W. Green; selections on recorders by Miss Elaine Lewis and friends, and “News from Wales” given by Mrs Pat Walters and Miss Pat Miles.

Organising Teacher.— Mrs Bernice Welles, head teacher for the League for the Hard of Hearing in New Zealand, has been appointed organising teacher for the country. Miss P. Cruickshank becomes tutor teacher and head teacher for the Auckland branch of the league.—(P.A.) Avonside Mission Circle.—Members of the Avonside Circle welcomed Archdeacon W. Merlin Davis and Mrs Davies to the first meeting since their arrival in Christchurch, when the third -annual meeting of the Avonside Mission Circle was held recently. Archdeacon Davies led the intercession service which preceded the business meeting held in the parish lounge. Mrs S. Crosier (president) presented the financial statement and the secretary, Mrs K. A. Haworth, read the annual report. Sound progress in the work for the island missions was reported.
