BURSARY AWARDED IN CANADA
Lincoln Graduate’s
Success
A graduate of Canterbury Agricultural College, Mr Leeroy L. Gordon, who has completed the first year of a post graduate course in agricultural mechanical engineering at the Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph in Canada, has been awarded the Canadian Farm Implement Association bursary for 1959. , This award is made to the student showing the greatest proficiency and interest in college activities during the term. There are 1400 students at the college this year., Mr Gordon, who was bom in Canada, is the son of Mr and Mrs M. A. Gordon, of 48 Armagh street, Christchurch. Mr Gordon’s father is resident manager for the Massey-Ferguson organisation in New Zealand and the South Pacific Islands.
After spending a year at Canterbury University, Mr Gordon went to Canterbury Agricultural College where he completed courses for the degree of bachelor of agricultural science, the diploma of agricultural engineering and the British National diploma in agricultural engineering in 1957.
Subsequently, Mr Gordon left New Zealand with a Fulbright scholar, Mr Herman Soderquist, and after hitch-hiking in Australia and in Europe through Italy, Switzerland and France, he attended a 20-week course in instruction, demonstration and the
mechanical side of farm machinery at Stoneleigh Abbey neaf Coventry. Mr Gordon will spend another year at the Ontario Agricultural College and will spend the final year of his three-year post-grad-uate course at Toronto University.
During the vacacation from the Ontario Agricultural College between April and September, Mr Gordon is assisting a professor who is making a study of freeflowing materials such as oil and grain. For five years from 1948 to 1953 Mr Gordon lived in Southern Rhodesia when his father held an appointment in Africa.
