RETIRED BRITISH OFFICERS

Possible Increases In Pensions

Retired regular officers of the British forces or their dependents living in New Zealand may be unaware of possible increases to their pensions, says Colonel ii. Trew, of 443 A Ham road, in a letter to the editor of “The Press.”

“Although many retired officers, by their membership of the Officers’ Pensions Society, will know of recent developments, past experience suggests there may be one or two who are not informed,” says Colonel Trew.

“According to the latest communication from the society, when the 1959 Pension (Increases) Bill becomes an act; and on subsequent confirmation by Royal Warrant “the retired pay of all officers over 60 (or incapacitated or invalided) will be increased by 12 per cent, in the case of retirements before January 1956,” and 2 per cent for later retirements.

“A 10 per cent, increase in widows’ pensions in certain cases is also foreshadowed,” says Colonel Trew.
