Nun’s Health Deteriorating.— Arrangements for Sister Evangeliste of the Nursing Sisters of the Assumption, Petone, to visit her parents in Ireland have had to be changed owing to a deterioration in her health. Her brother, the Rev. Father Brennan, of Seattle, who was to join the aircraft at San Francisco and accompany her home to Ireland, is on his way by air to New Zealand.—(P.A.)
North Beach C.W.I.— A sixth anniversary party was held recently by the North Beach Country Women’s Institute. MrsE. McAlister presided and welcomed visitors, who included Mesdames M. Davies (Dominion executive), N. Candy (Dominion Councillor) and C. D. Newton (Canterbury federation). Competition winners for the year were announced and a concert programme was presented.
Harmonic Society.—A musical programme was presented to 100 members at the recent meeting of the women’s ladies’ auxiliary of the Christchurch Harmonic Society. Mrs Maisie Collins opened the concert with a song cycle. Her accompanist was the composer, Mr Charles Martin. Mrs Grace Blair sang a bracket of songs accompanied by Mrs M Allison, who also played piano solos. Accompanied by Mr Ronald Moon, Miss Angela Connal played a violin sonata and Mrs E. Boyd-Wilson also sang.
