A Melbourne General Sessions The Australian mare Wiggle broke the American grass course record of 59 l-ssec for five furlongs today in a work-out for Saturday’s 100,000-dollar Arlington Handicap in Chicago, the “Morning Telegraph” reported The racing newspaper said that, ridden by Dick Barnett, who will ride her this week-end, the four-year-old daughter of Reg' and Sweet Nymph went a brisk halfmile on the grass course at Arlington Park this morning in 45 4-ssec and pulled up after five furlongs in better than 59sec. The newspaper said that dockers disagreed on the final tabulation. but it was evident that Wiggle beat the American grass course record of 59 l-ssec. “Wiggle will most certainly win the Arlington Handicap.’* her Australian owner. Bill Godby, told a Chicago radio audience later in the day. “Round Table (the top-weight and likely favourite) is brilliant, but there
isn i a norse in tne world tnai can give Wiggle that much weight and beat her.’’ The newspaper said that although Round Table has not been beatgn on the grass at Arlington or Washington Parks, local fans and horsemen, sensing an upset, were still talking about Wiggle’s sensational work between races. Wiggle will carry 7-7 over the mile and three-sixteenths on Saturday, against Round Table’s 9-6. ’lf all eight acceptors start, the winner will receive 74,250 dollars.
