Foul Rugby
Sir, —It must be clear to the New Zealand Rugby Union how i quickly a bad example of foul i play by an All Black player is followed by provincial players. A Lions winger was fouled on Wednesday when going for a try. There has been no official or public condemnation of these incidents. Does New Zealand accept the view that it is good tactics to break the rule deliberately and foul an opponent to stop a try? Surely it is time that New Zealand and provincial selectors took into account good sportsmanship when choosing their teams.— Yours, etc., FOOTBALL FOR FUN. August 20. 1959.
