LONDON FASHION SHOW

Novel Presentation Of Models LONDON. At the recent fashion show which opened the first 1959 London Fashion Week a new system of presenting models to buyers and fashion experts was put into operation. It was presented as a theatrical display, with model girls attended by presentable young men, or dancing dreamily, or gathering in the kind of groups admired by the glossy fashion magazines. It meant hard work for the girls. One of them said that the rehearsals had been going on for two days, almost without a break. The whole parade was produced by a well-known theatrical producer. '

The buyers and the fashion writers, who are inclined to cynicism on such occasions, apprecitated the new type of presentation enormously, judging by their applause. One of Britain’s bestknown models, Brodwen Pugh, stole the show. Miss Pugh, a dark Welsh girl who models for Balmain and has recently returned from showing clothes in Berlin, took the stage in a highly-colour-ed jacket and matching trews, hgr nose buried in a fashion magazine. Lifting her head slightly she turned and scowled at the audience. At the resultant applause, she halted, as if in surprise, and scowled again. Then, making herself comfortable on a divan, she turned her head once more and, with one more look al the auditorium, addressed herself to her magazine as though she had no more interest in the proceedings. The buyers seemed to be more interested in her behaviour than if she had beamed at them from start to finish, and probably took additional notes of the clothes she wore.
