A Dilapidated Vehicle
Sir, —A member of Parliament, Mr Faulkner, has stated in the House that there is scope in this country for a scrap metal industry May one suggest that this enterprise might be suitably inaugurated by the immolation of a certain motor vehicle, so conspicuous an object on the city streets for its obvious decrepitude, appalling noise, and the appearance and behaviour of its youthful occupants that it passes belief how it has failed to excite the interest of some traffic officer before now? This outrageous contraption was last seen a day or two ago having overtaken a small car just before turning into Papanui road, with the occupants making crude and derisory gestures to the driver, a woman, of the small car.—Yours, etc., M.T. July 31, 1959.
