LIONS ARRIVE AT WANGANUI
Rousing Welcome In Heavy Rain (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI. August 2. Members of the touring British | Isles Rugby team arrived in Wancanui late this afternoon to I a rousing welcome from hundreds of persons who crowded the Wanganui railway station for the occasion. Not even the dismal weatherheavy rain was falling at the time—could dampen the enthusiasm of Wanganui’s first look at the Lions. Their arrival made a tremendous impression on the children, whose shrill voices kept up a constant barrage of noise. The barricades on the station platform and outside on Taupo quay were in danger of collapse as the people crushed forward to get a better look at the celebrated visitors. The scenes were equally enthusiastic when the Lions alighted from the buses outside their hotel. Death Sentence on Woman Aged 70.— For the first time in 39 years, a woman has been sentenced to death in Egypt. Amouna Mohamed Khedr. 70 years old. was found guilty of murdering her daughter-in-law. She committed her crime out of jealousy, it was stated.—Reuter.
