MEN’S INDOOR BASKETBALL

Three Teams Now Share Lead Y-Boys A. Rex A, and B.G.H. A. each of which has had two losses, now share the lead in the men's indoor basketball competition. All three won their matches last evening. B.G.H. A v. Wigram Although It went down to B.G.H A last evening, Wigram displayed vastly improved form, which no doubt stems from solid practice for tiie Air Force title to be decided early in August. A solid tussle between Belcher, of Wigram, and Entwistle, of 8.G.H., under the B.G.H. offensive basket, was very even throughout the game, both teams moving smoothly up court to set themselves for shots from well out.

This was the general trend of play until half-time when B.G.H. took the initiative and sped the game up considerably. This led to upsetting of the Wigram passing. Both M. McKay and R. Burnley, intercepted frequently, started fast breaks, and got Dempsey and Thomson in close for lay-up shots. At this stage Wigram made use of its substitutes but could not combine. It only settled down when McKenzie returned to the ' centre position to score immediately. For Wigram Belcher and Restall scored five points each and for B.G.H. Burnley scored 10 points. Y Boys A v. University

Without R. Salt for this game and playing one short most of the time. University was unable to cope with the pace and shooting of Y Boys, although up to half-time it held them well. K. Ewings rebounding for Y-Boys was outstanding. Ewing ana Lemhan. for University, were conspicuous in this department.

In the second half play became a little scrappy, with University having the lion s share of the ball, but Y-Boys finding the basket, mainly from close in, but occasionally from the corner. In the last five minutes University, guarding too closely, was fouling consistently, allowing Y-Boys a lot of ball from which they scored an easy win. For Y-Boys Ewing top scored with 12 points; for University D. Waple top scored with 10 points. Other teams which registered good wins in an evening of bright basektball were Rebels and B.G.H. C. Rebels especially showed the results of good coaching in the last two years and if they steady their pace and improve their courtcraft they might well get promotion next season. Results were:—

B.G.H. C 20 v. Lincoln 14; Rebels A 25 v. University B 8; B.G.H. A. 30 v. Wigram 17; Y-Boys A 35 v. University A 17; Y-Boys B 12 v. Teachers’ College 20; Rex A 28 v. B.G.H B 14.
