MARKET FOR N.Z. SIRES

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 20. The secretary of the Auckland Racing Club, Mr W. N. Mackie, who recently returned from a six-weeks visit to America, said today that he thought New Zealand could develop a worthwhile market in America for thoroughbred sires, but it would have to sell only its very best. Addressing the Rotary Club, he said the trend for many years in America had been toward the breeding of sprinters, but prizemoney was now being adjusted to encourage the breeding ot stayers. Because New Zealand had specialised in the breeding of stayers, evidenced by its success in big races in Australia, it was in a strong position to vie for recognition in the American thoroughbred market.
