AIR TERMINAL BUILDING

Only Minor Changes Necessary Several minor, modifications had had to be made in the light of experience and use, but generally the new terminal building at the Christchurch airport was functioning very well, the airport committee reported to the City Council last evening. Since the completion of stage I of the building, it was estimated that between 30,000 and 40,000 persons had inspected it. The week-end traffic had been high. Little or no damage had been reported. One problem was the cleaning and polishing of the concoursetiled floor without producing a slippery surface, the report said. Daily traffic through the building continued to bring in an excessive amount of grit and sand, as it had not been possible to complete the laying of flagstones on the airfield side of the terminal building. There had been some delay In occupying office space because the electrical and heating services had not been completed. The committee expected the cargo depot for the National Airways Corporation* to be completed towards the end of next month In the second stage of the building project, the contractors were up to floor level for part of the section, and a start had been made with the erection of columns and walls. The basement j excavations had been completed and the boxing was in hand for the basement foundations.
