Badminton Australians Win At Greymouth

The South Island section of the touring Australian badminton team beat West Coast’s representatives at Greymouth last night, winning all ■games without losing a set. An exhibition game between the Australians, J. S. Russell and C. R. Cutt, resulted in a 17-16 win for Cutt. Australia meets New Zealand in the only test of the tour—for the Whyte Trophy—in Christchurch in a fortnight’s time. The Australian team touring the North Island won all eight games of their match against Hawke’s Bay at Napier last night. Greymouth results (Australian names first) were:— Men's Singles.—Russell beat P. Coll, 15-1, 15-1; Cutt beat O. Harrison, 15-1, 15-2. Women’s Singles.—Mrs M. Russell beat Miss J. Baird, 11-2, 11-1; Mrs J. Twining beat Miss M. Wall, 11-0, 11-4. Men’s Doubles.—Russell and Cutt beat Harrison and Coll, 15-2, 15-3. Women's Doubles. Mesdames Russell and Twining beat Misses Baird and Wall. 15-5, 15-1. Mixed Doubles.—Russell and Mrs Russell beat Coll and Miss Baird, 15-6, 15-5; Cutt and Mrs Twining beat A. Whitehead and Miss Wall, 15-0, f 5-3. Napier results were:— Women's Singles.—Mrs J. Beaven beat Miss L. Saran, 11-2, 11-2; Mrs A. Pincott beat Mrs J. Mills, 11-4, 11-5. Women’s Doubles. Mesdames Beaven and Pincott beat Mrs Mills and Miss Sarah, 15-0, 15-0. Men’s Singles.—G. Robotham beat F. Girvan, 18-14, 14-4; K. Turner beat A. Mills, 15-2, 15-5. Men's Doubles.—Turner and Robotham beat Mills and Girvan, 15-3, 15-0. Mixed Doubles.—Mrs Beaven and Robotham beat Miss Sarah and Girvan, 15-0, 15-0; Mrs Pincott and Turner beat Mrs Mills and Mills, 15-3, 15-4.
