Hamilton Soldier’s Record "The Press" Special Service HAMILTON. July 19. Lieutenant-Colonel A. S. Playle has been appointed honorary colonel of the Ist Armoured Regiment to replace Major-General Sir Keith Stewart. Colonel Playle has now gained the rare distinction of havirtg served in every rank of the regiment or its predecessor units He joined the 16th Waikato Regiment in 1927 and served in all n.c.o. ranks until he gained his commission in 1930. He sailed for Egypt with the First Echelon and finished the war as commanding officer of the 18th Armoured Regiment. He was first commander of the newly formed Ist Armoured Regiment, which incorporated the 16th Waikato Regiment.
