COMMUNITY TV STATION
Private Venture In ‘ Auckland "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, July 19. Sketch plans for a four-kilowatt community television station proposed for the summit of Mt Albert have been filed with the Mt Albert Borough Council. The letter accompanying the plans was signed for the promoters by Mr M. J. Morris.
As Mt Albert is a public reserve the council .will submit the proposal to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for his advice. In his letter, Mr Morris said the station would be financed by a mutual private share association of television viewers, or intended viewers or interested artistic and civic organisations. The Government had been approached for a licence, but was not clearly agreeable to services being operated by persons other than manufacturers experimenting with equipment. “It would seem that the prospect of the development of colour and programme technique will persuade the Government to grant a licence,” he said.
