Spaniard Wins Tour de France
(N.Z Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) PARIS, July 18. Federico Bahamontes, of Spain, today won the Tour de France cycle race. The 31year-old Spaniard, waving triumphantly, got a wild ovation from 40,000 spectators as he crossed the finish line at the Arc des Princes Stadium. Enthusiastic fans poured on to the track with flowers and embraces for all 65 tired cyclists w'ho finished the gruelling race. Bahamontes is the first Spaniard ever to win the 24-day classic, which attracts millions to the roadside as it sweeps by. Results were:—Federico Bahamontes (Spain), 123 hr 46min 45sec, 1; Henry Anglade (France). 123 hr 50min 46sec, 2; Jacques Anquetil (France), 123 hr 51min 50sec, 3.
