Union Attacks Colour Bar
BRISBANE, July 19 A strong Queensland union will move to cut off liquor and food supplies and labour from any Queensland hotel which, imposes a colour bar. The union is the Federated Engine Drivers' and Firemen’s Association. The union move follows the refusal by three Brisbane hotels to serve liquor to an American negro sailor last week. The negro was Cecil Steed, aged 25, of Tennessee, a third-class ship s serviceman in the destroyer Renshaw.
