Vance Palmer Dead
MELBOURNE, July 18 Vance Palmer, a leading Australian author and broadcaster, has died in Melbourne. He was chairman of the advisory board of the Commonwealth Literary Fund for six years until 1953. His first published works were written early in World War I, in which he served in the Australian infantry. Possibly best known for hi- short stories with Australian background, he also wrote several novels. Mr Palmer visited Christchurch to speak at a writers’ congress during the centennial celebrations.
