Towards Non-Violent Living
Sir,—Now that nuclear weapons have rendered non-violent social living compulsory—anyone doubting this shduld read the facts in Pauling’s “No More War" (in the Public Library)—we must reject both Communist and demo-? cratic States as safe social guides;? both use violence and the threat of violence to establish or maintain their varying ways of life. We must have a non-violent social ideal ana use only nonviolent means to try to realise it Perhaps biology can help us. The central teaching of biology is the unity of life; although all at differing stages of development, all living creatures on the earth (in the cosmos) are essentially kinsmen. As expressions of fundamental life they are all of equal value. Hence to kill a plant or an animal is just as much a crime against life as to kill a man. What a task awaits man!—Yours, etc., N. M.
