Value And Volume Of Production Up
■ ’ (* ■ ■ ' The value of production in the 1957-58 production year increased by £l5l million, or 2.4 per cent, to £637.5 million, according to figures in the latest Abstract of Statistics. In the previous year there had beep an increase of 7 per cent. Increases were recorded in the factory group (from £169.5 million to £188.3 million), the building and miscellaneous group (from £60.1 million to to £66.8 haillion) and in the forestry group. ■ , These increases were partly offset by decreases in the farming group (frorn £349«8. to £338.1 million) and in the mining group. The volume of production for •all groups increased by 6 per cent., compared with a rise of 10 per cent, in the previous year. The main contributions to this rise were increases of 6 per cent, for the farming groups and 8 per cent, for the factory group. The index ofi volume production per head of population rose by 4 per cent.
From 1946-47 to 1957-58 the annual gain in the volume of production has averaged 4 per cent Farming produced has averaged a 2.6 per cent, annual increase and factory production a 5.8 per cent. rise.
Removed from Llst. : —Share* of the Otago-Southland Finance Corporation, South Island Finance Corporation and Trades’ Finance Corporation have been removed from the official quotation list by the Stock Exchange Association. This action follows the taking over of these companies. the first two by Lombard Banking, Ltd., and the last one by the United Dominions Corporation. “It canino longer be considered that there is a free market for_their shares,” said the official record of the stock exchanges.
