DEARER FARES IN WELLINGTON
Heaviest Increase 50 Per Cent.
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 23. Fares on public transport operated by the Wellington City Council will be increased from tomorrow.
The heaviest increase will be felt by one-section travellers. The cash fare has been increased from 4d to 6d, and a 10-trip concession ticket will cost 3s 6d instead of 3s.
Corresponding increases are provided for longer distances. The City Transport Department expects the new fare schedule to produce an additional £ 120.000 a year.
Three appeals, the hearing of which is understood to be in July, have been lodged against the increases, but until then the rise will be applied in line with the council’s decision.
