Racing DENOUNCE’S FOAL

Te Awamutu Trainer

“The Press” Special Service MATAMATA, June 24. ~T “ e firs t foal of Denounce, one of the best race mares ever imported to this country, is now in work with J. L. McDonald at Te AwaIP u tu- She is a neat but smallish bay filly by Khorossan. Denounce has a full brother to this filly which is a rising yearling and looks very much like her. It seems sure to be a bigger youngster at the same stage. J. L. McDonald has lost the services of the capable galloper Quid. The gelding has been dogged by recurrent soreness and recently went very lame. It proved to be a cracked bone in the knee and he has finished racing. McDonald recently recommissioned the good-class sprinter Attila, and othei members of his team in No Surrender, Bang On, Sallust and Turkman, winner of the Summer Cup at Ellerslie and other good handicap races.

Covert has been turned out for a spell. He showed some promise as a hurdler for McDonald, but found hard tracks against him J. Wickliff has turned Three Dollars and Mandy out for a spell. Two recent additions to this team are Luck Boy, which gjew a fair amount during a spell, and Royal Moss, a winner in hacks. Saita Gold is an addition to the team of J. Ormsby at Te Awamutu. She is a two-year-old chestnut tilly by Rolled Gold. Ormsby has given die smart three-year-old The Answer a short break and the Oman colt nas freshened right up. He might be on the way to useful form. Ricardo, one of the better northern sprinters, has been turned out until tracks improve. He is of no use in bad ground. Breakaway to Spell

A Cook said this morning that the hurdler Breakaway has not properly recovered from his fall when he slipped on landing at the Te Awamutu meeting. He will be spelled. Cook has the big gelding, Khan, back in regular work, and is also preparing a shapely .two-year-old filly by Oman from the former good mare Royal Glory. Another rising three-year-old in the Cook team, which must be the last of the stock of defunct Contact or very nearly so, is a nice bay filly out of Totnes.

Cook is taking a three-year-old bay filly by Le Filou from Florence Mills along quietly, in the hope she will make a stayer. She is a halfsister to Man o’ Mars and from the same family as the Wellington Cup winner Old Bill.

Stylish Officer has freshened up with an easy time at Te Awamutu under A. Cook. The Able Seaman gelding looks big and healthy He has been entered for Trentham but a decision as to whether he will make the trip will not now be made until his owners and the trainer nave conferred. Stylish Officer has been weighted at 9-8 over a mile at Trentham. Anyhow for Trentham The Cambridge trainer, J. A. Mitchell intends to take Anywhere and Anyhow to Trentham. but Anyhow will first race at Avondale. Be Fair has not completely recovered from an injury received at the northern meeting and will not make the trip. The Cambridge horseman, J. Hely will go to Trentham to ride Nupla and Peter Willonyx for Te Rapa trainer H. Long. The Cambridge trainer W. W. Townsend has recommissioned the good three-year-old Old Salt, which did well during a spell. Old Salt proved good enough to win his way out of hacks under oig weights and was placed in several classics. He was unlucky not to win a good handicap in the little racing he did in open company. At his last start he fell in the Cornwall Handicap at Ellerslie. He shows no signs of ill-effects from that fall. Old Salt might furnish into a four-year-old good enough to win one of the major staying races next season.
