Traffic Jam In Panama Canal
(Rec. 10 p.m.) PANAMA, June 23. The biggest peace-time traffic jam in the history of the Panama Canal is holding up ships from 24 to 36 hours, and no immediate relief is in sight. Yesterday 27 vessels were delayed and another 24 are expected to be held up today, in spite of a schedule of 36 transits each way on the canal.
Officials blamed the congestion on an unprecedented flow of traffic. From June 15 to 22, a total of 282 ships arrived at the canal.
