DRY-DOCK PLANNED AT AUCKLAND
Minister Inspects Site Near Bridge
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 23.
The Minister of Marine (Mr Fox) had an informal discussion with members and officials of the Auckland Harbour Board today on a proposed dry-dock for Auckland.
Later, the Minister inspected an area of reclaimed land at St. Mary’s Bay at the side of the harbour bridge motorway. He said he was impressed with the proposed site. Mr Fox said commencement of the project and the matter of a government subsidy were matters for a cabinet decision.
The board is seeking State aid to finance construction of a dock which might cost £2 million. A departmental committee suggested that a large slipway should be built instead, but the board has rejected this.
