U.S. Interest In Auckland Plan (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 21. The Export-Import Bank has indicated that it is still interested in advancing a substantial loan ■for Auckland's £2.8 million I tourist-hotel at Bastion point. The chairman of directors of Tourist Hotel (Auckland' Development. Ltd. (Mr 11. J Kelliher! in Auckland today, said:— . "For many years, the hotel industry. the New Zealand Travel and Holidays Association, transport and travel groups and other ' interested organisations have been clamouring for a positive approach to the development of tourism as ! an important factor in New Zea- , land development, particularly from the point of view of earning the overseas exchange so badly , needed for the-support of local industry.
“It is well known, too, that’for these reasons the development company has strenuously sought Government sponsorship for an international-type hotel for Auckland.
“Because of lack of practical encouragement, several offers of overseas financial participation have been lost, and the latest American overtures for finance from the Export-Import Bank, through Pan American Airways, seems to be heading for the same fate.”
