Man Killed On Main Highway

(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 14.

Police believe that a young man who was killed yesterday on the Ohakune-Taihape highway, four miles from Ohakune. was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop. The man’s body was struck by a second car at 8.25 p.m., and the driver, Mr R. Gardiner, of Ohakune, reported to the Ohakune police. The dead man was: Keith Marner*, aged 20, workman, of Kakaramea, near Patea.

Immediately after the discovery of the body, road blocks were set up by the Taumarunui. Wanganui, National Park, Taihape. and Hunterville police and extensive inquiries were made.

Late tonight, no trace had been found of the vehicle which, the police say, is likely to be damaged at the front on the lefthand side.
