C.O.R.S.O. CAR CONVERTED

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. June 14. The contents of one collection box, part of the money raised on Saturday for the C.0.R.5.0. appeal for . World Refugee Year, was stolen in a car conversion and robbery outside the Bank of New Zealand in Queen street at 5 p.m. on Saturday. A few minutes earlier, guards had been standing at the entrance to the bank and a police car had been cruising up and down the street as £9OOO was transferred from four C.0.R.5.0. cars to the bank.

The car was taken during the few minutes the C.0.R.5.0. officials were checking the returns inside the bank. The amount of money in the box, a special collection given by the congregation of St. Philip’s Church, St. Heliers, is not known.

The car, which was being driven by the secretary of the Auckland branch of C.0.R.5.0.. the Rev. H. C. Dixon, had C.0.R.5.0. appeal signs at the front and back. It had only about a quarter of a gallon of petrol in its tank.

Police patrol cars were immediately alerted. The car was found, out of petrol and abandoned, in Upland road, Remuera, at 9 a.m. today Only the money was missing. The broken collection box, clearly marked “C.0.R.5.0. Appeal,” and all the records of the collection, were lying on the seat.
