Tenant Labour System In South, Africa
CAPE TOWN. Organised agriculture is now opposing the labour tenant system still widely prevalent on farms in South Africa. It. has asked the Government to help bring the system to an end quickly. The labour tenant system is regarded by most as ‘ out-of-date and wasteful of the union’s manpower, Dr. P. G. le Clus, Director of the South African Agricultural Union, said. ' “There is no room in modern farming lor part-time use of available labour resources —and that is what Jthe labour tenant system amounts to. In return for four months’ to six months’ employment, the labour tenant gets a niece of land for himself and his zamily all the year round.”
