Olmedo, had a hard task beaUng the New Zealand player, Mark Ot way. 6-3, 9-7, in the third round of the men’s singles at the Kent' lawn tennis championships at Beckenham today. Olmedos powerful service and* nard drives pulled him through * After a comfortable win in the first* set he constantly made mistake* in the second. In the second round of the women s singles, Anna Dmitrieva an 18-year-old student from Moscow battled her way through to the’ third round by beating Mrs I War wick, of Kent. 7-5, 6-1. The Russian’ girl allowed her aggressive spirit to get the better of her at times, but she kept up constant pressure Later she was beaten by Mist J Hopps (United States). 6-1. 2-6 6-3 : in the third round. Results in the men’s singles, second round, included: L. Gerrard (New Zealand) beat C. Dezarnaulds (Australia). 6-0, 6-1; T Ulrich (Denmark) heat B. Woolf (New Zealand). 6-4, ‘ Third round results included*— A Olmedo (United States) beat’ Otway. 6-3, 9-7; L. Gerrard beat R* Becker (Britain). 8-6, 8-6.
