Old Airport Terminal Demolished
The former terminal building at the Christchurch airport was yesterday demolished to make way for the overseas wing of the new terminal.
It took the contractor, Ryan Brothers, only two hours to flatten the structure; the rest of the day was spent removing the debris. Other tenderers had told the City Council they would do the job in 14 days. Ryan Brothers took only half of its tendered two days to complete the task at a cost of £l4B 10s to the city. After fittings and roofing had been ripped off the old wooden building three bulldozers tore the structure apart The control tower was wrenched to the ground in one pull by a machine on the end of a line.
