MILK-SELLING LICENCES
Gallonage Fee May Be Charged
An increase in annual licence fees payable by milk sellers will be discussed by the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board when it meets vendors soon.
Milk shops at present paid £1 a year, and it was anomalous that milk vendors should pay 10s, said the supervising officer (Mr A. P. Millthorpe). He suggested that the fees be tied to a specified gallonage and suggested that they be 6d a gallon, with a minimum of 10s.
A vendor with an average round of 100 gallons would pay £2 10s, a charge similar to that of other local authorities, said Mr Millthorpe. The estimated revenue was £360, against £7O at present It was wrong that vendors who already paid on gallonage should have to pay fid a gallon yearly, said Mrs A. Schumacher. The chairman (Mr R. G, Brown): What does Mr Caithness think about it?
Mr P. Caithness (vendors* representative): Not very much (laughter). The proposal was held over for discussion with the vendors.
