F. D. Roosevelt II
Sir,-—Franklin Delano Roosevelt, jun., has inherited a famous name. It must be regretted by all that he has tarnished it by his abuse of Lord Montgomery. When asked, Lord Montgomery gave his opinions on the causes of the weaknesses of United States leadership They may have been right. They may have been wrong. They were certainly shared by a large proportion of the people in the Western world What was the result? Were his opinions answered? No. No' attempt was made to do so. Instead newspapers and politicians vied with each other to abuse Lord Montgomery personally, and have scraped the barrel to find something to abuse the British Army. Now Mr Roosevelt beats them all. Again he is unable to answer Lord Montgomery. He, too, hides behind personal abuse. So anxious is he to do so, that he confuses Colonel l Grivas with what he calls a Greek Archbishop.—Yours, etc.. J.D.M. May 26. 1959.
