Kiwis Beat Trainees

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 17. The graduates of the national Rugby League training school, each at a fine degree of fitness and all tremendously keen, came close to beating what was virtually last season s test side in an excellent match at Carlaw Park on Saturday. The Kiwis won by 23 points to 17 but, particularly in the forwards, often looked sluggish against the efforts of the trainees. The lighter training school forwards tackled determinedly and were much the livelier in open play. The match generally was played at a rousing speed B. K. Griffiths (West Coast) (two). R. C. Ackland (Auckland). H. Maxwell (Auckland) and R. W Percy (Auckland) scored tries for the Kiwis, while C. A. Eastlake (Auckland) converted three and kicked one penalty goal. B M Campbell (Auckland) (two) and H M. Paterson (Auckland) gained tries for the training school. G M. Kennedy (West Coast) converted two and also two penalty goals.
