First Leg At Gisborne “The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, May 15. A large team of visitors from Auckland. Waikato and the Bay of Plenty will compete on the opening day ot the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s winter meeting at Gisborne tomorrow. The T.A.B double will be on the Te Hapara Handicap and the Publicans’ Hack Purse. The Woodville sprinter. Regal Dig-' nitary, was injured on the float and was off-loaded at Wairoa. He may run on the second day next week, but has been withdrawn from the Te Hapara Handicap. Donaldo has also been scratched for the He Hapara Handicap and will contest the Publicans’ Handicap, the second leg of the double. India was unable to secure a qualification certificate to start in the Wainui Hurdles, so he will be started in the Te Hapara Handicap. Yoga, which was pre-post favourite for the Wainui Hurdles, has been scratched owing to slight soreness. The weather was fine in Gisborne today. The forecast is for cloudy and cool weather tomorrow with occasional light showers. The track will be yielding. Australian Rides At Riccarton
The Australian jockey, S. Martin, who is on an extended working holiday in New Zealand, has made his headquarters temporarily at Riccarton. Martin was at Washdyke for about a fortnight and rode at the recent Amberley and Ashburton meetings. He was in the North Island for several weeks before coming south.
