GASIFICATION OF COAL
Renewed Interest In Project “The Press’’ Special Service WELLINGTON, May, 15. The establishment of a plant for the high-pressure gasification of coal from the Huntly fields is one of the projects which will be examined by the Gas Council set up to advise the Government on the development of the gas industry. A year ago the gasification project created interest when Dr. A. E. Bruggeman, development manager of the Morwell scheme in Victoria, was invited to visit New Zealand to report on the possibility of establishing a plant in the North Island. Dr. Bruggeman’s report, together with information gathered by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, will shortly be examined by the technical committee of the Gas Council. The Morwell scheme, which pipes gas to Melbourne from a coalfield 100 miles away, has been visited by Mr C. W. O. Turner, engineer-in-chief, Ministry of Works, who is now in Australia.
